Note: There will be a quiz next week on hand washing, kitchen safety!

Remainder of Class - For Project:

Your lab group will be assigned a Kitchen Safety item/aspect to focus upon for your lab group project for today. Please stay in your lab groups as assigned last class. A-F 

Any - new students - select a group with less than 4 max per group.

Each lab group will focus on a different topic as listed below. 

Lab Groups: You will create a poster on the below topics as listed.

Station A - Hygiene - Kitchen Basics: ALL basic Hygiene Methodologies re: prepping to work in a kitchen.

Station B - Hand Washing: Progression of how to wash hands.

Station C- Kitchen Fires: What type of fire? All types? Progression? Focus on more than one type of fire and appropriate method of putting that type of fire out.

Station E - Knife Safety: How to wash & store knives safely. How to move around the kitchen with a knife safely and pass a knife safely.

Station F- Scalds, Burns - How to treat these and Lifting Items Out Of The Oven - How to do this safely. 

Ms. Hathorn - Allergy Safety and Awareness.

You will be using paper and markers as provided. All required materials at the front.

Lab Groups - You have the remainder of class to complete your assignment on the poster paper provided. Please create a colourful and information filled posted. Please ensure all group names are on the back of your poster before you hand it in.

Oct 28 2022 Seed Bake!!!!

Seed Bake!!!  Ingredients  US Metric   1x 2x 3x ▢ ¾   cup   raw pumpkin seeds ▢ 1   tablespoon   olive oil ▢ ½   teaspoon   kosher salt ▢ ⅛   teaspoon   black pepper (optional) Equipment: *Bowl *Spoon & Wooden Spoon or Spatula *Silicone Mat *Silicone baster *4 sided baking tray Instructions  Preheat oven to 350°F (177ºC). In a small bowl combine pumpkin seeds, olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Lightly grease a sheet pan with olive oil. (use silicone baster).  Evenly spread the seasoned pumpkin seeds on the sheet pan. Bake until the seeds are toasted and crunchy, about 12 to 15 minutes.  Stir every 5 minutes for even toasting, and check for doneness with each stir by tasting a seed for crunchiness. Transfer the roasted pumpkin seeds to a bowl to cool down.

Oct 18 2022 Fruit Crisp Bake, Reflection and Marks Check In.

Attendance. You have 2 TA's for this lesson :) Michelle and Lumi. They know how to do attendance for you. Students are baking their already prepped apple crumble's in today's class.  Please request that the TA's bring out the crumbles for baking from the back freezers. Baking Time - 45min to 50 min. REMINDER - for students - PUT A 4 sided large cookie sheet UNDER your crumble pan before your put it in the oven. This will catch any accidental overflow.  REMINDER: TA's to dole out ice cream - max 3 scoops per student please. Ice cream located in the back room freezer.  * All washing up and tidying must be complete before 10am. At 10am TA's to do station checks re: all items used and ensuring that all returned equipment has been dried and put away properly.  Recipe  - for your reference.
